Niamh Dalton

In November 2018, Niamh obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Criminology at the University of Malta. After completing her degree, she developed an interest in both the physical and financial aspects of crime. This interest developed further as she obtained a Masters of Science degree in Crime Science with Counter Fraud and Counter Corruption with the University of Portsmouth. Moreover, following an interest in data protection, Niamh was awarded the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Practitioner Award in April 2022.

Niamh began her career with the National Statistics Office (NSO) whereby she was responsible to test survey programs, allocating interviewers or supervisors to conduct surveys, collecting and analysing the necessary data for surveys and the delivery of informative presentations. Subsequently, in 2019, she started working with Grant Thornton as a Lead Associate in the Compliance and Risk team.

Niamh’s role within the Firm is to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulatory obligations in relation to anti-money laundering and counter financing of terrorism, General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), Whistleblowing, conflicts of interest, corporate governance and independence amongst other requirements. Throughout her time at Grant Thornton, she has built upon her knowledge in the respective fields to which she has advised clients on enhancing their compliance approach, preparing methodologies, policies, and procedures for clients as well as conducted audits or high-level reviews for clients from various sectors and backgrounds. Niamh is also involved in the risk management aspect of the Firm as she assists in the implementation of various mitigation measures pertaining to health and safety, reputational risk and operational risks amongst other matters.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Crime Science with Counter Fraud and Counter Corruption - University of Portsmouth
  • Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Criminology - University of Malta
