Odessa is currently an Assistant Manager in the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) Team of Grant Thornton Malta.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy with Honours, prior to starting her audit career in the Philippines. Moreover, she has more than nine (9) years of experience in financial statement audits, internal auditing, business process and compliance reviews, and risk management assessments.
Prior to joining the Grant Thornton, Odessa served as an Internal Audit Specialist for one of the largest power utility companies in the Philippines. In this role, she gained extensive experience in conducting comprehensive financial, operational, compliance, regulatory, risk management and management system (quality, asset, and business continuity) reviews, for both the company’s business and corporate support units. Her responsibilities encompassed the entire audit lifecycle, from the initial planning and scoping phases to the execution and detailed reporting of findings. She also played a crucial role in the follow-up and monitoring of resolutions for identified issues, ensuring that corrective actions were effectively implemented.
At GT, Odessa has primarily focused on conducting internal audit reviews that encompass financial, risk management, regulatory, and compliance processes for a variety of private entities within the financial technology sector. Her responsibilities have included performing agreed-upon procedures, such as comprehensive business process reviews and independent risk assessments. Additionally, she has been actively involved in the audits conducted for the Internal Audit and Investigations Department (IAID) on European Union (EU) Funds in Malta, where assessments were done based on the requirements per grant agreements and procurement regulations.
