To sustain growth amidst recent challenges, the Malta Information Technology Agency and other authorities have initiated funding programs aimed at supporting eligible enterprises through various grant schemes, facilitating access to funds for a wide array of products and initiatives.

The Initiatives

Digitalise your business scheme

The "Digitalise your business" grant scheme is an initiative by the European Union aimed at supporting micro, small, medium-sized, and large enterprises engaged in their digital transformation. The scheme supports these enterprises through cash grants to part-finance investment in digital technologies and related processes. This includes hardware, software and other digital solutions to improve their efficiency, productivity and customer experience.

Eligible Solutions

  • e-Commerce Website
  • Digital Solutions such as:
    • Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and Custom Software
    • Hardware (such as Laptops, Docking Station, Port Replicator, Monitors, Tablets)
    • Analytical Tools
    • Cybersecurity systems
    • Cloud Computing
    • Routers, switches and Wifi related equipment
    • Installation including any training costs on the use of the items mentioned above.

Application process and important dates

The scheme is managed on a demand driven basis where a public rolling call with periodical cut-off dates is issued. These days are as follows:

Following each cut-off date, applications will be assessed and evaluated and eligible applications scoring at least 50% of the selection criteria shall be ranked and grants shall be awarded subject to budget availability.

Digitalise your micro business Scheme

The Digitalise your micro business grant scheme is an EU initiative specifically aimed at helping micro enterprises. A micro enterprise is a category of small businesses that employs fewer than 10 staff and has either a turnover or a balance sheet total of less than 2M. The scheme supports these enterprises through non-repayable grants of up to 10,000 to part-finance investments in digital technologies and related processes.

Eligible solutions

This scheme supports eligible enterprises to undertake the following actions:

  • Hardware or Software
    • Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS)
    • Hardware such as laptops, docking station, port replicator, monitors, tablets
    • Cloud Computing
    • Installation including any training costs on the use of the items mentioned above.

Application Process and Important Dates


Like the Digitalize your Business program, this initiative will also operate based on demand. Periodic calls will be made for eligible entities interested in participating, with applications undergoing assessment and evaluation. Grants will be distributed based on the availability of funds.

CYBER+ALT Scheme

This scheme seeks to address the need to support SMEs in financing projects related to cybersecurity. This scheme will assist eligible SMEs with undertaking investments in cybersecurity solutions through non-repayable grants to finance up to 80% of the initial investment. The minimum project value is of €20,000 while the maximum grant amount is of €60,000 per project.

This measure shall support cybersecurity solutions which contribute towards the design, development, implementation and delivery of new cybersecurity solutions. The investment should result in the SME advancing the status of its existing cybersecurity capacity through the implementation of new solutions that must be focused on at least one of the below five investment areas:

  1. Threat detection and response
  2. Vulnerability management solutions
  3. Identity and access management
  4. End-to-end data protection
  5. Enhanced cloud-based platform security


Eligible solutions


This grant scheme will support eligible enterprises to undertake costs for the following actions related to cybersecurity solutions:

  • Hardware
  • Subscriptions, license fees and managed services
  • Staff training costs
  • Implementation costs

Application Process and Important Dates


The scheme shall be managed on a demand driven basis. Public rolling calls shall be issued for interested eligible undertakings to submit their applications. These applications will be assessed and evaluated, where eligible applications scoring at least 50% of the selection criteria shall be awarded the grant. Grants shall be awarded on a first come first served basis subject to budget availability.

Cyber Assess Scheme

The Cyber Assess Scheme aims to enhance cybersecurity resilience among Maltese businesses through tailored expertise and services, prioritizing simplicity to eliminate obstacles and ensure accessibility. This initiative enables businesses to take proactive measures against cyber threats, thereby fortifying local enterprises and mitigating supply chain risks. Specifically, it offers customized solutions encompassing both technical and business insights for evaluating IT systems and infrastructure (excluding SaaS, PaaS, SCADA, OT, and personal devices), and tackling information security challenges.

Application process and Important Dates

The Cyber Assess scheme shall be managed on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to service availability. The allocated budget is set at 150,000, made available through the Recovery and Resilience Facility Fund, which is part of the NextGenerationEU Programme, to provide a free of charge service to eligible enterprises.


The scheme is expected to remain operational until 31st July 2024, or until all services are consumed.
